The only thing waterproof is the material. The backpack literally does not zip up all the way which isn’t a big deal since the drone is gonna get wet. The thing that is a big deal is that the basic stuff you take to dive a drone doesn’t fit in the somewhat waterproof bag. You either leave the reel out or the drone and you’re gonna have to carry something in your hand. The hard case is stupidly overpriced and you typically have that worry of “is this gonna be an overpriced pile of trash”. So, do I buy or no?

The Wisconsin Underwater Archeology Association recently purchased a Chasing M2 Pro Max for our fieldwork in Lake Michigan. We already had used the Chasing Gladius Mini S with excellent results and were looking to upgrade our depth and accessory abilities. The M2 Pro Max certainly filled the bill. It more that doubled our depth ability to over 600 ft. and will enable us to mount a sector scanning sonar for measuring deep objects.
When we unboxed the M2 Pro Max, we immediately noticed its high quality, sturdy build and its many accessory ports. It ships in a very nice hard-shell case with plenty of room in its molded foam interior. The eReel was a particularly nice accessory, as it takes away the need to have a person constantly feeding and retrieving the tether.
The unit is also easy to use. We had it powered up, connected and working within 20 minutes and we were stunned by the resolution of its onboard camera and the brightness of the 4000 lumen floodlights.
The Chasing software installed easily on our tablet and was also very intuitive. We are looking forward to deploying this unit during our remote sensing fieldwork this summer. It saves us from having to suit up an dive every target we see on the sidescan sonar. With Chasing ROVs, we can hover over a deep target and check it out within minutes to determine if it is archeologically significant.
Lastly, Chasing ROVs are among the most cost effective units in their marketplace. We could have spend five times as much money for a unit that was essentially functionally equivalent. Chasing ROVs are quickly developing a solid reputation due to their responsive support department, online user community and continuous improvements to their offerings. We highly recommend them.
