CHASING drone saves woman in Korea
For the first time ever, an underwater drone was used to save a life. Last August 21st in Korea, the Ulsan Fire Department used a CHASING underwater drone to locate and rescue a senior woman who had fallen into the Taehwa River.
Since it was 11:06PM and raining hard that night, it wasn’t safe for rescue divers to enter the water. Luckily, the fire department had just undergone training for using the drone two weeks prior, and was able to apply their learnings to the situation. Thanks to the sonic detection feature of the drone, it only took them 10 minutes to find the victim, which according to an official from the department, “...is a really fast speed even nationwide.”
It’s great to see innovations and technology break through boundaries that limit humans. There’s no guarantee the victim would’ve survived had it not been for the utilization of that underwater drone. Imagine trying to find someone in a river late at night under heavy rains and in strong currents. Props to the Ulsan Fire Department’s Special Response team!
